Back to School

Yesterday was the first day of school for the girls.  3rd grade!  It's so hard to believe that my tiny 12 week premature babies are old enough to be in the 3rd grade.  I feel like I missed a few years in there.
The look so grown up here.  Maybe it's the socks?! :)

The first day of school requires a fun and healthy lunch.  Here is what I packed for them.

They had 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut with an apple cookie cutter. I added fruit leather cut 3's on top.  Trader Joe's Sour Cream and Onion Corn Puffs, yogurt with a few sprinkles and grapes with a fun rainbow baran on top. All of this was packed in their Easy Lunchboxes.

We are looking forward to an exciting and busy year.  This will be their first year for SOL testing and letter grades.  I hope that everyone that started back to school yesterday had a wonderful first day.

  1. The girls look awesome and sweet, which they are! I tried to imagine MA wearing the blouse-longer-than-the-sweater look and laughed. She'd explain to me that the top layer shouldn't stick out. AR a little? Hmmm, don't know where it came from!

I'll be filing that lunch idea away for future use. Maybe you could explain how you get the bread to cut nicely without the edges always smooshing down.

    1. Thanks! They were so excited to wear them and thankfully the shirts are all one piece.

For these sandwiches I used a cookie cutter and cut the bread first. It helps with bread smooshing and cutting back on waste. I freeze the excess and try have homemade chicken nuggets or something that requires breadcrumbs on the menu that week.

    2. I used the yogurt and sprinkle idea today and was "the awesome Mama!" So thanks! I even have school sprinkles - they are letters and numbers. So very cool.

    3. Awesome! It's amazing that a few sprinkles on yogurt makes the lunch that much better.
